Can You Believe We Have Been In Business for 13 Years?
We started our company in 2010, can you believe we have been in business for 13 years? Our original plans were to have a small family-owned company with no employees. We built a small office in the basement of our home and Annie answered the phone and did sales while Mike worked out of a small container yard outside of Chicago and drove the semi-truck for deliveries. Weekends were spent at home catching up on the paperwork work and brainstorming on how to continue to grow.
Blessed, it wasn’t long before we had lifelong friends join us and we began to grow and build the business at our Smithshire, Illinois farm. We built a new shop in 2013, which allowed Mike to have a container yard here and not have to travel back and forth to Chicago as often. Our little business had grown into a thriving community business in the middle of a corn and soybean farm and cows!
We continued to outgrow our facility. In 2021 we purchase a building in Biggsville, Illinois to house our refrigerated container department. “Reefer World” allowed our refrigerated technicians to service and refurbish used refrigerated machines and to maintain our parts department. We also keep in stock parts for our customers to where we can supply and ship them in short order. Having the extra room in the main shop allows us to continue to grow our container modification projects. With that growth, we were able to hire additional shop and office employees.
Fast Forward
Fast forward to 2023. We built a new office out of shipping containers with an office staff of 5. Our shop and yard facilities have a staff of 7 full-time employees. So, what was meant to be a part-time at-home business has grown into a very successful small family business. A business that has provided a much-needed service in rural America.
